2014 Team NEO Awards
This Year’s H. Peter Burg Regional Vision Award winner, Luis Proenza, understands what it takes to see an opportunity and jump at it. When he was hired as president of the University of
Akron in 1999, one of his first priorities was making the campus more attractive. What some considered a drawback, he saw as potential. “Its physical setting was impressive,” he says. “It was right next to downtown, and it had a substantial number of buildings.” He points to the glass-encased Goodyear Polymer Science Building as an example. It’s no different when it comes to this year’s Team NEO Economic Development Plus Awards winners. These organizations saw a chance to bring new jobs, companies and innovations in health care and workforce training to the region, and they jumped at the chance to enrich Northeast Ohio.
