BioEnterprise’s space in the new Medical Mart won’t be selling MRIs or hospital beds. It’ll sell the region. President and CEO Baiju Shah says the Med Mart’s importance to Northeast Ohio goes beyond attracting visitors to creating spinoff in the local biomedical industry. Here are three reasons the Medical Mart is important to BioEnterprise.
Encourage entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurs who can’t yet afford their own space in the Medical Mart will be able to display their new innovations in BioEnterprise’s space. They’ll get feedback from physicians, clinicians and hospital administrators visiting conferences at the convention center. “If it’s an orthopedic show, we’ll bring some orthopedic companies; if it’s a neurology show, neurology companies,” Shah says.
Business attraction.
BioEnterprise will pitch Cleveland to biomedical companies looking to to set up a new location. Its Med Mart space will highlight local firms’ success stories and the business system set up here to help medical tech firms grow.
Symbolism.
The Med Mart’s presence will improve Cleveland’s reputation as a center of the health care industry, Shah says. “Cleveland is globally known for health care and research already. We’re starting to become known for the health care industry that’s here and growing. We’ve got over 600 companies. But this one-of-a-kind facility really distinguishes us.”— ET
