RailRestro to invest $20-30M; seeks to improve logistic infra by FY23

RailRestro, a food tech company that offers online food delivery in trains, is set to invest $20-30 million to develop a robust logistics infrastructure in India.

Apparently, the firm plans to strengthen its foothold with expansion in the east, said RailRestro Co-Founder & Director Manish Chandra.

The Indian Railway’s authorized catering partner, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is said to be employed to deliver restaurant food to passengers into trains at the railway stations of their choice directly.

As per credible sources, the process has begun, and at present more than 100 stations are being covered under direct delivery in some of the top-performing stations.

Speaking on the latest deal, Chandra stated that the firm plans to make its delivery fleet available at all the serviceable stations by the end of this financial year.

He further mentioned that the firm will be rigorously investing in the model, and $20-30 million is premeditated to be capitalized in rolling out its fleet at most of the serviceable stations.

For the record, the firm at present offers food delivery service to almost 450 stations as an aggregator.

By the end of this year, it is planning almost to double the number of serviceable stations.

Mr. Chandra also noted that with the momentum, the delivery fleet owned by the firm has reduced delivery failures sharply. Currently, around 300 top stations make for 70-80 percent of the orders of an average of $4.3.

It was further quoted that RailRestro has delivered approximately 10 million meals till date.

It has been reported that more than 50 stations are covered under direct delivery in the East Zone, some of which under the firm’s fleet are Patna, Malda Town, Hajipur, Asansol, Barauni, New Jalpaiguri, Jharsuguda, Howrah, Guwahati, Brahmpur, and Katihar.

Imperative to note that RailRestro plans to add more stations contentiously for the region in the coming years, serving a large population of travelers.
