Side-mounted fingerprint sensors for Google’s Pixel 7 series from 2023

Tech mogul Google LLC has recently announced that its most awaited pipeline of Pixel Foldable Phones and Pixel Tablet will have a traditional side-mounted fingerprint sensor next year onwards.

A source close to the company claimed that the reason for switching back to traditional sensors for the upcoming Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Notepad was because it was practical and in line with the user’s convenience of unlocking the device regardless of whether or not it is folded.

Previously, for the Pixel 6 series, technical specialists at the company realigned the fingerprint sensor from the back of the phone to the front, thereby earning the ire of many customers.

Speaking of Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models, the company solely focused on improving the reading interface, while also integrating the feature of face lock on the devices.

Presently, the tech giant is in the process of testing two devices with the side-mounted sensor in order to obtain a clear picture of its functionality.

The first model is Y aligned’ which means that the fingerprint sensor would appear either on the left or right side of the vertical end of the device, similar to the one in the Samsung Galaxy Z-Fold Series.

The second model, dubbed X aligned device would have a fingerprint sensor that is placed either on the top or the bottom edge. This experiment may attain fruition by appearing on the upcoming Pixel Tablet, wherein the sensor would be placed on the upper power/lock button, as in the case of the previously launched Pixel Slate.

Notably, the folded specifications showcase a display resolution of 1080 x 2100, while the unfolded specifications boast a display resolution of 1840 x 2208.

While Samsungs range of foldable phones and tablets has allocated quite a following among consumers since its launch, Google is expected to be a formidable rival in the marketplace after its patented range of foldable devices appears in the marketplace by 2023.
