Elon Musks new rule for employees: Work 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week

Since Elon Musk assumed leadership of the company, employees of Twitter Inc. have been reportedly putting in far more time than usual.  The workforce is currently threatened with impending layoffs due to the tech tycoons planned restructuring of the business.

According to internal communications, to fulfill Musks targets, Twitter managers have instructed some employees to work 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week, which works out to 84 hours per week.

The social media platform was acquired by Musk for USD 44 billion, but there have been rumors about layoffs at the business for a long time. It is yet unknown how many employees will be terminated when the company intends to do it, and which teams will be hardest hit.

Since Friday i.e., 28th October, company employees have been given assignments that some have interpreted as tests by Musks team to evaluate who puts in the most effort. Speaking of which, the tasks assigned to Twitter's developers include coding tasks to work on over the weekend, referred to as sprints along with making significant improvements to Twitters verification process.

According to sources, employees havent been informed if working on the tasks will result in overtime compensation, substitute time off, or job security. Hence, making the staff concerned that if they do not finish their responsibilities by the early November deadlines, their careers at Twitter may be finished.

People familiar with the matter cited that Musk's team has requested Twitters managers to do performance assessments and submit the lists of which staff should be retained. However, the managers themselves are feeling the pressure; several have admitted to The New York Times that they spent their weekend sleeping at Twitters workplace.

It is important to note that Musk disbanded Twitters board of directors, as evidenced by an SEC filing on Monday i.e., 31st October, solidifying his position as the companys lone director.
